Netball, basketball and volleyball have a devoted following on the island, due in no small part to the existence of readily available sporting heroes. The national netball team is rated among the top ten in the world. The game is the favorite sport of the women of Barbados and is played year-round, often in the national stadium.

Basketball courts are also a familiar sight on the island and the people here have formed many local and regional programmes. Barbados-born professional players like Andrew ‘Big Dog’ Alleyne and Wanda Maynard-Morris have inspired the younger players to follow their idols to the upper echelons of the sporting ranks.

A favorite of beach-goers the world over, a game of volleyball can be easy-going or competitively intense. Barbados has a national league for serious players as well as public nets on the beaches of the southern coast.
