
Barbados has a comparatively high standard of health care, which is easily accessible to all. The main Government operated health care facilities are the 600- bed Queen Elizabeth Hospital, a general hospital which offers specialised care in such areas as gynecology, pediatrics, obstetrics, plastic surgery, radiology, radiography, psychotherapy; and the 627- bed Psychiatric Hospital responsible for mental health. There are also eight (8) government Polyclinics providing free medical attention for minor ailments, and dental treatment in some cases; five Geriatric Hospitals for care and treatment of the elderly; a network of Child Care facilities operated by the Child Care Board; and a National Nutrition Centre.
