Sherbourne Conference Centre (Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, tel: 246 467 8200) is undeniably the crown jewel of Barbados meeting facilities. Located in the parish of St. Michael overlooking the lush St. George Valley, this state-of-the-art facility is conveniently located just two miles from Bridgetown, and minutes from the South and West Coasts, key business services, hotels, fine dining and shopping, as well as airport and highway access. Five beautifully landscaped acres border the facility, next door to Ilaro Court, the Prime Minister’s stately residence. 

Having hosted global conferences for the United Nations, U.S. President Bill Clinton and Caribbean heads of government, the Carib bean Tourism Organization and others; Sherbourne Centre accommodates more than 1,200 people with a total of 165,000 square feet of usable space including 25,000 square feet of exhibition space. The 10,470 sq. ft. Main Hall and 7,584 sq. ft. Frangipani Room can accommodate 1,000 theatre-style and 850 classroom-style. For smaller meetings, the 1,444 sq. ft. Bougainvillea and Poinsettia rooms can each hold 200. The centre’s stylish restaurant and lounge can comfortably seat 200, and the Marigold suite of rooms host up to 260. 

The facility features a clerical suite with 24 workstations, a media centre with television editing suites, a microwave television link and wireless audio controls for simultaneous interpretations in six languages. Amenities also include onsite banking, postal and medical services. The building is 100% accessible to the physically challenged. Also available are cafeteria dining and ample parking. Room rentals vary based upon group size; customised packages for meeting planners include accommodations, ground transportation and activities. 

Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex (Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, Wildey, St. Michael, tel: 246-437- 6010, fax: 246-437-3358) is a multipurpose facility accommodating 4,000 for conferences, conventions, concerts, exhibitions, banquets and dinners. Named in honour of a Barbados living legend and the world’s greatest cricketer, the facility consists of an air-conditioned gymnasium equipped with large public balconies and excellent lighting, sound system and media facilities. Unparalleled in the Eastern Carib bean, this venue also features lawn tennis courts, Aquatic Centre with Olympic-size pool, and an Astroturf hockey field.

— Hotel Meeting Facilities —

Hotel Meeting FacilitiesA range of properties offers fine conference facilities. Following is a sampling of hotel venues for meetings and events.

Accra Beach Hotel — This South Coast resort features two meeting rooms, accommodating up to 280. Audiovisual capabilities.

Almond Beach Village — This all-inclusive resort is on the West Coast in St. Peter, offering meeting facilities for up to 100. Audiovisual equipment available.

Amaryllis Beach Resort — This recently renovated ocean front 4 star resort features 150 rooms and suites, inclusive of 12 rooms adapted for wheelchair users and designed to conform to the American Disability Association (ADA) and international standards for the disabled. Conference facilities boast a maximum capacity of 200 persons. Barbados Hilton — The new Hilton Barbados will feature 350 ocean view guest rooms including 77 Executive Floor Rooms and 33 Suites. Each room features a balcony, separate shower unit, high-speed internet access and is equipped with an electronic safety deposit box, private voicemail, two dataports (with laptop capacity), cable TV, a minibar and a coffee maker. The Executive Lounge will provide complimentary breakfast, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, along with a check-in and check-out area exclusive for Executive Floor guests.

The Hilton Barbados features over 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. These facilities include a 4,000 sq. ft. Hilton Meetings complex, business centre, a boardroom with 8-hour chairs, with ergonomic design for long term seating, three meeting rooms that can be divided into six breakout rooms and a 6,200 sq. ft. ballroom that holds up to 570 people. Wireless internet access is also available in all public areas.

Discovery Bay Hotel — The hotel’s conference room seats up to 60 theatre-style; support/ audio-visual services available.

Glitter Bay — The facility has one meeting room; 2,496 square feet. Outdoor receptions for up to 100. Full business services and audiovisual equipment.

Royal Pavilion — Two meeting rooms; outdoor receptions for up to 100. Full business services and audiovisual equipment.

Silver Sands Resort — Three conference rooms host receptions and meetings for up to 40. Spaces can be combined, and outdoor meetings are also available.

Barbados Beach Club — Meeting room accommodates up to 125, and offers available audiovisual equipment.

Corporate cruise and party boatTry a party boat, yacht or catamaran... The spacious Harbour Master holds 700 passengers on its four decks, offering a corporate entertainment centre serving lunch or dinner at sea. Perfect for nautical themes, the Jolly Roger pirate ship offers cruises for up to 300. Ocean Mist, a 60-foot catamaran, offers deluxe charters for smaller groups. Fun cruises on a variety of vessels, theme parties, tournaments in the wide variety of sports facilities available. Hotels can also arrange on-site activities such as tug-of-wars. Club Caribbean is a private members’ club. Annual or single-usage tickets can be purchased from your travel agent, airline or at the reception desk. Includes conference rooms, typing, photocopying and fax and phone, computer workstations, beverage and snack service, and more.
